Description
This classic apple pie recipe combines the sweetness of apples with a flaky crust, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package store-bought pie crusts (2 crusts)
- 6 to 8 medium apples (such as Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish.
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice, then pour this mixture over the apples.
- Toss the apples until they are well-coated in the mixture.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust and dot with butter.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
- Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30-40 minutes.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
- For a more rustic pie, leave the edges of the crust uneven when crimping.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
