- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Place the stick of butter in an 8×8-inch baking dish and let it melt in the oven.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Add the buttermilk and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the dough over the melted butter in the baking dish and spread evenly.
- Score the dough into 9 squares using a butter knife.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and crisp around the edges.
- Let cool slightly before serving warm with your favorite toppings.

- For a richer flavor, you can add herbs or cheese to the dough before baking.
